Richard Linklater sounded off on Trump’s tariff threat on foreign-made motion pictures all through the Cannes press conference for his new film “Nouvelle Imprecise,” saying: “That’s not going to happen correct?”
Linklater shot “Nouvelle Imprecise,” which chronicles the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless,” in France. When requested if he had any concepts on Trump’s newest threat to impose a 100% tax on motion pictures made exterior of the U.S., the director doubted the viability of the proposal.
“The tariff issue, that’s not going to happen correct? That man changes his ideas like 50 events in in the end,” Linklater talked about. “It’s the one export commerce of the U.S., it might be type of dumb to… Regardless of, we don’t have to discuss that.”
Guillaume Marbeck stars because the long-lasting French filmmaker, with Zoey Deutch having fun with the movie’s major lady, Jean Seberg, and Aubry Dullin starring as a result of the film’s male star Jean-Paul Belmondo. The movie is Linklater’s first enterprise shot in French.
“Nouvelle Imprecise” premiered at Cannes on Saturday night to an enthusiastic ovation and glowing opinions. Choice’s Owen Gleiberman known as the movie a highlight of the 2025 pageant, writing: “Guillaume Marbeck is so good as Jean-Luc Godard he’s uncanny. And so is the whole movie.”
