Born in 1969, American artist Todd James started his profession within the early Nineteen Eighties, graffitiing on the New York Metropolis subways beneath the title REAS. Like many graffiti writers, James was impressed by cartoons and sometimes channeled politics and humor into his work. However not like most, he mastered the sensible challenges of fine design at an early age, transitioning to a profession that seamlessly bridged the hole between the worlds of graffiti, business artwork and tremendous artwork. His work and installations have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, together with each the 2001 and 2015 Venice Biennale. James is a co-creator of Avenue Market, a serious work of the post-graffiti motion that debuted on the Philadelphia ICA in Pennsylvania in 1999 and was expanded at Deitch Initiatives in New York in 2000. A decade later, a re-creation of this work was the central set up of the Museum of Modern Artwork’s record-breaking Artwork within the Avenue exhibition in Los Angeles. He stays probably the most influential and ingenious graffiti writers of any period.
